AI Adoption Readiness Scorecard

A self-assessment of the conditions that help or hinder AI adoption in your organization, informed by selected published industry research. Use it to structure a conversation about where to focus, not as a measurement or prediction.

How this fits with our consulting practice

The Scorecard measures organizational readiness to adopt AI well, whether the conditions for sustained adoption are in place. It reflects one respondent's view of the organization. If the results raise questions you want to work through, the next step is a free discovery conversation about what you are seeing.

AI Adoption Readiness Scorecard

An 18-question self-assessment that shows where your organization looks strong or weak on six conditions for AI adoption, and where to look first.

In 10 to 12 minutes, you answer 18 questions across six dimensions of AI adoption, chosen with reference to selected published industry research. You see your score and readiness band for free. The full report adds a written interpretation and recommendations based on your answers.

  • Scored across 6 research-informed dimensions
  • Written report generated by AI from your answers and scores
  • Readiness band placement with a written interpretation
  • Context from selected published industry research, if you share your industry or size
  • Three recommendations tied to your lowest-scoring areas
  • Downloadable PDF for your team or leadership

How the Scorecard works, and what it can't tell you

Who built it

Terence Milstead, Founder and Principal of Second Mind, architected the readiness workflow and directed its implementation using Claude Code, drawing on selected published industry research. The questions reflect his judgment as an adoption researcher. His earlier research was done for previous employers and clients, not by Second Mind Solutions, and the Scorecard does not use data from that work.

What it measures

Eighteen multiple-choice questions, three or four per dimension: leadership and strategic alignment; manager reinforcement and internal norms; workflow integration and habit formation; team fluency and confidence; trust and psychological safety; and measurement and accountability. Each answer scores 0 to 3. "I don't know" answers are left out of the score and noted in the report.

How the score is calculated

Each dimension's points are multiplied by a weight and the total is shown as a percentage of the maximum possible. The weights are a judgment call informed by published research on what tends to matter most for adoption. They were not derived statistically from outcome data.

DimensionWeight
Leadership & Strategic Alignment1.5
Manager Reinforcement & Internal Norms1.5
Workflow Integration & Habit Formation1.25
Team Fluency & Confidence1.25
Trust & Psychological Safety1.25
Measurement & Accountability1.0

Readiness bands: Exploring (0 to 20%), Experimenting (21 to 50%), Advancing (51 to 75%), Operating (76 to 100%).

How the full report is written

The written report is generated by an AI model (Claude) from your answers, your scores, and a fixed set of instructions Second Mind designed. If you share your industry or organization size, the report adds context from published industry research. That context describes broad trends; it is not a comparison with organizations like yours. If you enter your organization's name, the report generator also searches publicly available information about it and may refer to it briefly.

Limitations

  • It has not been statistically validated, and it does not predict whether your adoption will succeed.
  • There is no peer benchmark dataset. Your score is not compared with other organizations' scores.
  • It reflects one person's view of the organization, and answers are self-reported.
  • The AI-written report can contain errors. Treat it as a structured starting point for discussion, not a professional audit.
